Every Saturday through October -- Bridge Street & Plaza Area Tours -- Every Saturday through October, there will be one hour tours of Bridge Street and the Plaza. August 1 -- 9:00am -- Feast Day Mass -- Feast Day Mass,Pecos National Historical Park, Pecos NM. Official recognition of the historic ties between the Village of Pecos and the Pueblo of Jemez. Mass is held at 10:00am in the old mission on the park grounds. This is a very moving event steeped in tradition and history. There will also be a bread baking demonstration in the traditional horno. August 7 -- 7:00am to Sellout -- Farmers’ Market -- The Farmers’ Market is starting the 2010 season on Saturdays from 7:00am until sellout. The location remains the same at University and 6th Street. There is always a variety of produce from several local growers. There are lots of plants as well: flowers, herbs, vegetable starters and tomato plants. A new banner for Farmers’ Market has been ordered thanks to the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce. Watch for it on Bridge Street soon! August 7 & 8 -- 9:00am -- San Miguel County 4-H Rodeo -- The San Miguel County 4-H Rodeo will be held at the Santa Fe Trail Event Center located on the corner of Airport Road and Hwy 50. August 7 -- 10:00am to 4:00pm -- Places With A Past, Historic Sites Tour -- The Places With A Past, Historic Sites Tour includes a tour of several of the 900 plus beautiful historic buildings in Las Vegas. There is also a tour of the Montezuma Castle. The Montezuma Hotel and Harvey House were built by the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad. The San Miguel County Extension Office sponsors this event at the San Miguel County Fair Grounds. The Fair Grounds has a brand new building that houses animals and now has a new show ring. There is a livestock show and sale, indoor exhibits featuring sewing, gardening, and baking. Add a mud volley ball tournament, judging of steers, lambs, goats, poultry. Add rabbits, a chile cook-off, and a pack horse race and you have the recipe for a fun filled day for the entire family. All national parks are free to the public on Saturday and Sunday August 14-15, 2010. To celebrate, Fort Union National Monument will host a father-son living history team on Saturday who will represent a Private and a 2nd Lieutenant during the Civil War. National Park Service preserves and protects historic Fort Union and the Santa Fe Trail. Fort Union (1851-1891) was the largest frontier military post and supply center of the southwest. August 21 -- 7:30pm -- Benefit Dance at the Cleveland Roller Mill Museum -- This unique event includes a potluck on the lawn in front of the Mill (4:00pm) prior to the start of the dance for those who would like to participate. There will be an outside dance floor set up, and free dance lessons will be provided by Donna Every. Following the dance there is informal picking and singing under the stars around a campfire. Proceeds benefit the Mill, which is the only flour mill of its size and type that has been restored to operating condition in the southwestern United States. Tickets: $20 at the door. Ranger led tours stop at vignettes that are staged along the tour walk and are treated to local participants performing skits depicting everyday life at the fort during its hay-day.
